One Step At A Time

Updated: Jul 7, 2023

If you feel stuck in your search or with the current state of your work team and don't know what pathway to take, you are right where you are meant to be in this moment. I applaud you for recognizing that you need help.

To honor the life of Martin Luther King Jr., consider the power of his faith to dream, his passion to unite and boldness to give voice to injustice.

Imagine if you took one step each day towards your goals. What could you achieve in a year?

How do you establish a plan when you don't know where to start? Let's go back to basics and consider a goal setting exercise. Answer these questions first.

  1. What is the current challenge you are facing?

  2. Where do you believe that challenge started?

  3. What is hindering you from overcoming that challenge?

  4. Who can you call upon to help?

  5. When do you believe that there will be a resolve?

In my coaching sessions, we go through this brief exercise to complete an initial goal discovery. Then, we go through a S.M.A.R.T. goal map (see a sample below), a great resource developed by George Doran in 1981. The acronym stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely.

When you review all of these goals, it simply comes down to (1) what do you want to achieve? (2) why is this important to you? and (3) what needs to be prioritized as the next step? Take one step today.

Would you like to receive personalized coaching to achieve your goals this year?

We thank Dr. King for everything he has taught us. May we do the same!
